You know you need to lose weight. You've probably tried a few fad diets and may have even lost a few pounds. However, there are some unseen hurdles there to seem to always steal your zest for sticking with the recommended "eat-healthy-get-exercise" routine. If you were to stumble across a social media post about tapping to help you lose weight, you may scoff at the idea but still read on nevertheless just because you are curious. If you have heard about tapping for weight loss, you probably have more than a few questions. Here are the answers to a few of them. 

Where does this whole tapping for weight loss idea come from?

As odd as it may sound, tapping for wellness is not a new idea. The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has actually been around for a while. Instead of placing direct and consistent pressure on pressure points, EFT involves repeatedly tapping certain pressure points to help you overcome emotional obstacles. while this technique has been primarily used in the treatment of emotional disorders like anxiety and depression, it can also be used for issues that can have an emotional factor involved like being overweight or overeating. 

Where are you supposed to tap for weight loss?

There are several different pressure points that are supposed to be tapped to help release different pent-up emotional energies. According to Women's Health, you tap spots known as "energy meridians" on the body. These locations include:

  • the eyebrow
  • right under the eye 
  • under the nose
  • the outer edge of the eye 
  • your chin
  • an area under your armpit

You do not have to tap these points in any specific order, and a lot of people choose to tap these places repeatedly or in an order that just feels right to them. 

Is EFT for weight loss effective?

It actually can be really effective to use EFT to help with your weight loss efforts. You may not see drastic results right away as you would with dieting, but what you will find is that it is easier to overcome cravings. For example, if you are having a difficult time overcoming a craving for sugary sweets, using EFT can help you at the moment so you don't slip up and reach for a treat that is not healthy for your body. EFT is most effective when paired with diet and exercise, as it is with any other weight-loss plan, but can be a useful tool all by itself as well.
